Silent Appointments – What Are They and Why Offer Them?

Following periods of lockdown and self-isolation, many have been affected by social anxiety. This has meant many hair and beauty salons have introduced ‘silent appointments’ to cater to this growing client base. But what are they exactly and why should they make a difference?

What is a silent appointment?

It really is as it sounds – a silent appointment is an appointment… that is silent! Simple, right? These are offered at certain times or days of the week, where the radio is turned off, the chit-chat stops and everyone relishes in the sound of silence. The only conversation required will be during the consultation to make sure you understand exactly what the client wants.

Silent appointments can then be promoted on your social networks and website, perhaps for a certain time of day or day of week. Clients can then place a booking for those hours through your website, making the journey as seamless as possible. Staff will be able to note this in the appointment too if they wished, alerting them upon the client’s arrival.

Why offer silent appointments?

Many people have been anxious to return to a world that is opening back up. That means a chunk of your clients will be worried to return to your super social salon environment. However, by offering an option to book a silent appointment, you’re providing a safe haven for them to return to.

Silent treatments put your socially anxious clients at ease. They can arrive and have their haircut, brow tint or nails done without the pressure to engage in conversation. This not only helps those recently hit with social anxiety, but could also attract those who previously suffered in silence, expanding your client base.

The benefits for staff and clients alike

Silent appointments don’t just benefit your clients, either. Sometimes, your staff may feel social burnout from talking with clients all day, particularly if staff are overcoming their own negativity post-lockdown. Therefore, silent appointments could provide a welcome breather for staff to recharge.

While it could be argued that silent treatments prevent staff from building a connection with clients, the connection is being built in a different way. Quieter clients will appreciate you offering such a treatment, building the relationship from appreciation and repeat visits alone. The result is a stress-free environment for all.

Salon by Premier Software® offers an easy way for clients to book their appointments online. Staff can also make a note on their appointment if they prefer not to talk during their treatment. This helps to create a personalised experience for the client, ensuring they are comfortable and encouraged to return. For more details on how Salon can help you, view our features video or…
