Running a salon or spa by yourself can be tough, but you should never overlook the importance of salon teamwork. Your team are there to help you, just as you are there to support them. This may sound cheesy, but it’s true – together, you all help make your salon or spa run as smoothly as possible! Salon teamwork can help someone running behind

It can happen to the best of us – sometimes we end up running behind schedule with a client. So that your colleague’s next client is seen on time, it’s important to step in and make sure your salon’s reputation doesn’t take a hit. You can provide salon teamwork in a whole bunch of ways for this, from cleaning up your team’s equipment to keeping the next client entertained for a while. How does refilling stock help your team? Well, imagine you are ready to give your client’s hair a wash, only to be missing shampoo. You will need to take time out of your day to then hunt for more product. The power of salon teamwork can remedy this by making sure stock is replenished around the salon or spa at all times. This avoids wait times and also ensures there is always appropriate stock to retail to clients in the salon.

 

Group mindfulness to help salon teamwork

The salon and spa’s high-pressured environment can affect your team in other ways, such as their mental wellbeing. However, salon teamwork can help support their wellbeing if you all take part in group relaxation activities. For example, mindfulness techniques such as group meditation can help you all take 5-10 minutes out to breathe, reflect, and come together as a team. Not only does managing staff wellbeing help retention, but practicing mindfulness will boost revenue in the salon or spa.

 

Listen to your team’s concerns

One great way to support your team is by scheduling time out with each of them. Have a catch up, find out if they have any concerns right now, then take the necessary steps to help them. This can help you safely identify and manage stress in the workplace, even if the root cause is outside the salon or spa. You’ll find that by helping your team by actively making a change, or by pointing them to resources, they will be appreciative and feel listened to. In turn, they’ll be more likely to go out of their way to help you when they can!

It’s easy to criticise your colleagues, but when they do a great job, you should let them know! Positive reinforcement is vital to help boost your team’s confidence, and is an effective way to manage and motivate your salon staff. Salon teamwork can simply be a case of spreading the love where it’s deserved, rather than negativity, boosting morale and making the environment a great place to work.
