A new bill has been introduced to make sure all tips go directly to staff, meaning it will now be unlawful to hold back service charges from employees.

The Employment (Allocation of Tips) Bill will help staff in many service-based industries, including those in hair and beauty.

“It has always felt wrong that some employers have retained tips intended for staff,” says Dean Russel MP, who introduced the Bill. “The new legislation will halt that practice.”
